agree on everything but the tempo : listen to Cochereau’s version played at Notre Dame de Paris, he plays it even faster and it sounds absolutly perfect.

Oh Diane, Diane… you and your disgracefully-fast interpretations…

I admit it, though – her playing is one of my guilty pleasures

typical American, to big organs and to kitchy dressing party, and played like she had to catch the bus

Well, if someone meant it to be played in a certain way, why destroy it with such things as “I can play this really fast” tempo and registration consisting of almost tutti and tutti???

And you didn’t even mention the ending…

Too fast? No, I don’t think so. After all, this IS a Toccata. I’ve heard Rene Saorgin play this piece at this tempo.
Thank goodness the artist puts a little of herself in this piece, r(egistration, tempo etc.)
Only the boring , unimaginative, play it the same way all the time, surely a great way to kill a piece.

If I had to make an horror/suspense movie, I would use this piece as an opening! :)

I’m terribly sorry, but this is a really bad performance of this amazing piece. The tempo is way too fast, the registration is wrong and at around 1:55 she doesn’t even play all the notes for the right hand!! I’ve certainly heard better…

…and clearly you are an ignorant snob that has her nose too high up in the air to notice her own jealousy and ignorance, especially about French culture…. :-)
